POLICY & MISSION
At VF!, sustainability means continually improving the way we work. We’re on a mission to shake things up by creating and supplying solutions that look good and do good.
OUR SUSTAINABILITY POLICY
AND MISSION STATEMENT
Our goal is to generate sustainable growth for our business and work to build a better tomorrow for future generations. As a responsible organisation, our commitment to protecting the planet is through investing in humanity, preventing pollution and, in partnership with suppliers, minimising the impact of our industry on the environment.
We’ve therefore created a series of guiding principles across five areas of our organisation that underpin our approach to sustainability. These form the foundation of our purpose to create better experiences together for a better tomorrow.
Furthermore, we care for and unlock the potential of our team by:
Providing opportunities for training and professional development:
By investing in training and professional development of employees, we are helping them to reach their full potential and achieve their career goals.
Promoting wellness and a healthy work-life balance:
We host a weekly wellness walk where the team enjoys a relaxing - or rigorous - outdoor walk before taking on the day. A quarterly wellness day sees employees pampered with relaxing massages, wholesome snacks and wellness talks from industry professionals. We also offer flexible working hours to promote a healthy work-life balance and ensure fulfilled and motivated employees.
Encouraging a positive workplace culture:
A positive workplace culture shows that the team feels valued, supported, and engaged. We foster a positive environment by endorsing open communication, recognising employee achievements, and creating a sense of community.
We’ve created a suite of design guidelines that consider the lifespan of a display from materials, use of technology, and the production chain to end-of-life.
Sustainable design guidelines:
Rethink materials and processes:
Materials and processes used in the design and construction of our displays are selected to reduce packaging, minimise the use of non-recyclable materials, and simplify construction complexity. We encourage using eco-friendly and biodegradable materials such as bamboo or recycled plastics and optimise production processes to reduce waste.
Reclad to refresh:
To increase the lifespan of our displays, we offer recladding options that allow retailers to refresh the look of their units without repl;acing the entire display unit. Recladding may entail using new laminates or skins or repainting existing surfaces.
Repair through simplified construction:
To increase the easy repairability of our displays, we will simplify the construction process. One such option is to use modular designs that require replacing individual components and not a complete unit.
Reuse standard components:
To increase sustainability through waste reduction, we will design standard components for use across multiple units and encourage retailers to return displays for repurposing or recycling. It will reduce the need for new materials and minimise landfill.
Recycle through education:
To promote the value of recycling, we will educate retailers and provide clear guidelines on the processes involved. Printing QR codes on displays provide access to paperless options and partnering with recycling companies and organisations to improve the end-of-life process displays.
We also consider the cost and recyclability of materials such as clear plastic versus card/paper to ensure that displays eco-friendly.
VF! is committed to implementing and improving these practices to minimise environmental impact. Our aim is to create attractive, engaging displays that are functional and environmentally responsible.
We apply the following initiatives to deliver on our eco commitment.
We review the practices of our current suppliers and identify areas for improvement. Evaluating the volume of recycled content they use and how they handle waste and emissions are deciding factors in the review process.
Our defined sustainability goals are not only communicated to our suppliers but we also collaborate with them to set mutual goals to reduce waste and emissions and increase the use of recycled materials.
Implement eco-friendly processes:
We encourage suppliers to implement eco-friendly production processes like reducing energy and water consumption and using renewable energy sources.
Conduct regular audits:
We regularly audit suppliers to ensure they follow the agreed-upon sustainability goals and processes.
Internationally, we’ve focused on two key strategies; container consolidation and international storage. Container consolidation helps to minimise the unused space in sea freight containers thereby reducing the carbon footprint of each shipment. Utilising international storage allows for greater consolidation efficiencies and more efficient use of resources.
On the homefront, we work with local freight carriers to identify the most efficient delivery pathways. They, in turn, employ fuel-efficient vehicles and optimise delivery routes to reduce carbon emissions. In addition, we are currently transitioning to the exclusive use of packaging materials made from recycled paper because the logistics processes are proven to reduce environmental impact.
The Afterlife areas that we are developing include:
Providing retailers with instructions on how to recycle.
Designing easily-identifiable icons on POS that communicate sustainability information.
Increasing the use of QR codes on displays to facilitate easy access to paperless advice,
Where parts cannot be recycled, we will pursue innovative solutions to eliminate them.
We believe that we owe humanity and the planet continued acts of kindness. Our company is wholly committed to extending our generosity for a better tomorrow.
